Following the release of their Bangs & Works compilation (review here) a couple of months back, Planet Mu are bringing over two of the bright lights of the juke scene, DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad as well as ghetto house producer Chrissy Murderbot. Excitingly they’re also gonna be accompanied by Chicago’s finest footwork dancers, putting the music into vibrant context. Check the video below for a reminder.
Here’s what Planet Mu said about the tour:
“For anyone unfamiliar with the genre, Footwork is a mutation of Chicago Ghetto House and Juke. Rhythmically fast and centred around syncopated beats, Footwork has evolved specifically for Chicago’s unique and athletic Footwork dancers who have pushed the music to its limit. It has been inspiring many top producers over the last few years with many European and Stateside DJs outside the Chicago scene now pushing the music.
At the 8th annual Breakin Convention at Sadlers Wells on the 30th of April, dancers AG and Litebulb alongside others will display their footwork skills for the first time outside the USA Footwork battle dancers will provide a genuine taste of the Chicago scene, at the same time making sense of the uptempo music’s subs and snares with the frenetic movement of their limbs. On the Monday there will be a panel discussion with the dancers as well as a second performance.”
