New 'Hype Master' documentary details Stormin's life, music career and legacy

The film will look at the MC's battle with cancer, while documenting his meteoric rise to fame

A trailer has been shared for ‘Hype Master’, an upcoming documentary shining a light on the life and music career of the late MC Stormin.

The grime and DnB legend, real name Shaun Lewis, passed away back in 2018 after a lengthy battle with skin cancer, leaving behind a legacy that was recognised in an outpour of tributes from the likes of Skepta and Giggs.

Directed by Isaac Reeder, the new film will look at Lewis’ battle with the disease, while including previously unseen footage of the MC, as well as interviews with several of his relatives and friends, to document his rise to being one of the pioneering figures in grime.

An official synopsis for the documentary reads: “Music was in his blood. Growing up around like-minded individuals they set out to pioneer a whole new musical genre that became known as Grime.

“From the streets of Bow, East London, to sold-out venues across the world, Shaun Lewis, aka Stormin MC, touched countless lives through his words, his sound and his irresistible energy.

“His meteoric rise seemed to have no bounds, until he was given news that would rock himself, his family and the music scene; he was diagnosed with cancer. Hype Master is an intimate, humanistic portrait of an artist who never stopped fighting.”

The film will be available to view on Wednesday October 21 on Drum&BassArena.
