London producer Murlo has been doing a lot with his judicious blend of grime, funky, bashment and soca recently, creating music that hits hard but breathes with the spirit of the ancients and manages to convey a really rich, almost oceanic feel with a minimalist approach. His 'Adder' EP on Unknown to the Unknown and the Ariel single – made in collaboration with Famous Eno – on Mixpak come highly recommend alongside this new track Hydra. It's a fierce instrumental march that recalls his mate Spooky in its livewire energy, but is unmistakably Murlo in its rhymthic and melodic grace. No word yet on where it might eventually end up, but it's available to stream in the top left player right now.
