Micachu announces second album and Kwes collaboration

New album from the Shapes and Kwesachu collab all coming from the prodigious London musician this summer.

Micachu and the Shapes have revealed they’re putting the finishing touches to their new album ‘Never’. The follow-up to ‘Jewellery’ is due on 23rd July through Rough Trade Records.

In addition, Mica Levi, leader of the Shapes, has announced the second leg of the ‘Kwesachu’ project, a collaboration between the British musician and producer Kwes.

Mica Levi aka Michachu is a 25-year-old musician who’s making brilliant pop with her group Micachu & The Shapes, as well as composing for orchestras and making mix tapes that mash up dubstep, grime, garage and pop. Mica’s productions are a chameleontic combination of multi-coloured and multi-layered sounds and ideas.

Kwes, who has a new EP ‘Meantime’ out on April 30th, has previously worked with artists such as Ghostpoet, Speech Debelle and Damon Albarn. The 24-year-old artist defines his music as “pop music without boundaries”.

Their collaboration ‘Kwesachu’ started in 2008 with the release of the ‘Kwesachu Vol.1 mixtape’ (available here), which features reworks of Hot Chip, Cibelle, Metronomy and Golden Silvers among the others. On April 28th Kwes and Mica will play a special Kwesachu show at London’s Southbank Centre.
