Mica Levi nominated for a BAFTA for her Under The Skin soundtrack

She's up against Hans Zimmer.

Mica Levi has been nominated for a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) award for her soundtrack work on Jonathan Glazer's Under The Skin.

It's hard to imagine Under The Skin without Levi's soundtrack, which used experimentation and an avoidance of typical film score clichés to create something that was unsettling without being emotionally prescriptive, and, at times, beautiful. We loved it – it was our sixth favourite album of 2014 – and it's great to see Levi getting a nod from the BAFTAs for it.

Nominated in the best original music category, Levi is up against Antonio Sanchez (Birdman), Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Hans bloody Zimmer (Interstellar), and Jóhann Jóhannsson (The Theory Of Everything).

The British Academy Film Awards ceremony takes place at the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday February 8th and will be hosted by Stephen Fry. Check the full list of nominations here.

Late last year, Levi released a new mixtape under her usual pop alias, Micachu, called 'Feeling Romantic Feeling Tropical Feeling Ill'.
