Lemonade – Perfect Blue

Digital technicolor and plastic sounds abound on the New York group's new single.

The press shot that came with Perfect Blue shows Lemonade sat in a car, sunglasses on, garbed out in bright colours and Hawaiian shirts. The image is an appropriate match to the New York group’s new song, which plays out in digital technicolor. Perfect Blue is a hip hop-inflected number, with an 808-assisted beat driving cheapo instruments – Korg preset piano chords, the airy MIDI choir and new age styled flute at the end – and adding a layer of artifice to the conventionally poppy song. Reduce it purely to the sounds used and it’s not a world away from Rainbow Arabia’s ace new album.
