“I like tricking people with sound.” 24-year-old producer Kwes said in an interview he did with Dummy last year. It’s true, his new track Get Up has a lot of harmonic distortion and delaying. The guitars sound a bit like keyboards and you can’t really tell if the drums are drums. On this track, he plays bass guitar, keyboards, drums, sampler, guitar, an accordion as well as sings – a side of him that has never been explored before.
As a part of the DRC Music collective, Kwes went to Central Africa in prepping the ‘Kinshasa One Two’ album back in July, but now he is back in London, and will debut his first ever live show at The Shacklewell Arms on 28th November. His new EP is forthcoming on Warp next year, more details to follow.
