Joseph Capriati hospitalised after being stabbed in the chest by his father

The Italian DJ's injuries are "not life threatening," according to his representation

Italian techno DJ Joseph Capriati is in hospital after reportedly being stabbed over the weekend by his father with a kitchen knife following an argument on Friday night (8th January).

According to a new Facebook post by his agency Parallel, his injuries are not life-threatening.

The agency thanked fans and industry colleagues for their show of support for the 33-year-old and said that “we want to reassure you that Joseph’s injuries are not life-threatening and he sends you all a big and warm hug.”

Capriati is currently recovering in hospital in his hometown of Caserta, near Naples, where he had been living during the pandemic. Italian newspaper La Repubblica said his condition is “improving but still serious.”

The DJ underwent delicate pneumothorax surgery as well as a blood transfusion, according to the reports. Alberto D’Agostino, director of the Major Trauma Surgery Department at Sant’Anna e San Sebastiano Hospital said that Capriati’s condition is currently stable, but that a definitive prognosis can not yet be given, and his life is still at risk.

Capriati’s father, 61, who is a former police officer, has been arrested for attempted murder. He is expected to go before a judge today.

UPDATE (13/1/21): Joseph Capriati has shared an update from hospital, stating that (translated from Italian) “the doctors say the worst is over now”.

“I ask only one thing if it is possible, a little respect towards my father and my family, since neither I nor any of you have the power and the duty to judge what happened,” he added.

He continued: “I forgive my father for the crazy gesture and I pray so much for him. Now I think about healing. See you soon.”
