Here's what happened at Jme's 'Grime MC' event at Boxpark Croydon over the weekend

Over the weekend (3rd and 4th August), Jme took over Boxpark Croydon, selling merchandise, taking pictures and chatting with fans, as well as delivering sets with guest MCs.

The pop-up provided Jme with an opportunity to get closer to his audience. Merky Ace, P Money, Blay Vision, Lay-Z, Vital and Jammin all made appearances alongside Jme, with DJ Maximum holding it down on the decks.

Seeing Jme armed with a card machine behind the counter, dealing with customers for the afternoon, pretty much summed his ethos up. He’s authentic, with neither pretentiousness nor reservation, and a genuine presentation of himself to the fans that turn up to watch, listen and interact.

Merch-wise, the focus was an art book for Jme’s ‘Grime MC’ videos, showcasing everything from storyboards and sketches to stills, promo shots and lyrics. The staple Boy Better Know t-shirts were on offer too, as were a fresh run of ‘NANG’ shirts, taking the name from one of the tracks on ‘Grime MC’.

The Boy Better Know co-founder had put on a series of cinema screenings for his forthcoming ‘Grime MC’ album earlier this year, and this was one of a string of events building up to the record’s release.

Having more recently performed a number of unadvertised ‘Grime MC’ sets across London, it seems that the follow-up to 2015’s ‘Integrity>’ is edging closer and closer.

Whether the coming Wembley pop-up this weekend (10th and 11th August) will have anything different to offer remains to be seen…
