James Blake – Curbside
James Blake closes off the year with a weirdo rap tribute jam.
The cross-over between post-dubstep and the weird rap music of the late 90s and early 00s has long been there – both use abstracted beat patterns and have a large audience of Bristolians who say “safe” a great deal – but James Blake has just made it overt with his latest track, the B-side to his R&S single, Love What Happened Here. It’s a song that references Quasimoto and reminds us that this “Albums of 2011” alumnus is remains one of the most gifted producers of his generation.
