Jaakko Eino Kalevi announces self-titled debut album

Stream a new song from the dreamy Finnish musician from his debut album for Domino sublabel Weird World.

Jaakko Eino Kalevi will release his debut album via Domino sublabel Weird World on June 15th.

For the uninitiated: J.E.K. is a musician originally from Helsinki (where he used to be a tram driver) but currently based in Berlin. Like a true child of today, Jaakko started making music after hearing prog metal outfit Dream Theater, then moved on to making rap beats on Fruity Loops, and eventually ended up investigating reggae, disco, techno – whatever.

He writes lush, groovy, lo-fi(ish) pop and dance songs influenced by all of these things, and has put out a couple of EPs and self-released albums before, but this is the first official, widely distributed full-length.

"I played the ‘self-titled’ card this time because for many people this album will be their first encounter with my music," says Jaakko in the album's press release, "Also, I get my name misspelled so often that I think it’s good to focus on that at this point."

The album features guest appearances from the singer Suad Khalifa on four of the album's songs, while Sonja Immonen graces Ikuinen Purkautumaton Jännite. And we're promised saxophones aplenty from Jorja Renn, who often performs live with Jaakko as well as for Bryan Ferry.

Jaakko's album was one of our most anticipated of 2015.
