DRC Music - Kinshasa One Two [stream]
As you may know, Blur’s Damon Albarn spent five days recording in the Congo with a collective of musicians including Actress, Kwes, Richard Russell, TEED and Rodaidh McDonald alongside local Congolese musicians for the project DRC Music. The album, ‘Kinshasa One Two’, will be released through Warp in October, with all profits going to Oxfam. You can now hear some of the results of the recording process in the form of three tracks uploaded to soundcloud. They sound pretty strong, blending the UK electronic and Congolese music palettes well. First track Hallo dresses up lush synth sounds in jerky rhythms with vocals from Albarn and local musicians, Ah Congo is thick and heavy on the bass and apocalyptic atmosphere, while Lingala is a catchily clacking production, again heavy on the bass.
