Destroyer announces new album 'Poison Season'

Stream a new song, Dream Lover, inside.

Destroyer releases his new album 'Poison Season' on August 28th.

Vancouver musician (and sometime The New Pornographers member) Dan Bejar released his last Destroyer album in 2011 – the rather exquisite 'Kaputt'. 'Poison Season' is his 10th studio album. Its title track sees Bejar "surveying four wracked characters – Jesus, Jacob, Judy, Jack – simultaneously Biblical and musical theatre", according to a press release, with the song reprised twice on the record, first as a saxophone-enhanced "street rock" song and then as the album's finale.

The press release also claims influence from sophist-pop bands like Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout, Orange Juice, and The Blow Monkeys – bands that combined melodic mastery, incredible arrangements, and sonic excellence while channeling a certain sadness in their lyrics and vocal delivery.

Concurrent to the album, a new Destroyer 12" will be released, featuring two songs – a remix of Forces From Above and Times Square, Poison Season. He'll also be embarking upon an extensive European tour.
