Danny Brown has made no secret about his love and respect for the UK scene by namedropping the likes Dizzee Rascal, Joker and Darq E Freaker in interviews. It was still a pleasant surprise when Blueberry (Pills & Cocaine) – a collaborative single with Freaker – popped up yesterday. Darq E Freaker is probably best known for producing Tempa T’s 2009 anthem Next Hype but he’s been working steadily for the past few years pushing his unique sound. This latest offering stays firmly in the template of metallic bass hits and over-saturated organ work but it remains as devastating as it ever was. Danny Brown’s hard-edged squawk, strangely reminiscent of a young Dizzee, is the perfect accompaniment to the stomper that looks set to be the soundtrack of kidz going krazy on the streets this summer.
