BTJunkie gets the heck out of Dodge

Torrent-sharing megasite sniffs the air, quits the file-distributing game and closes operations.

With the colourful news of MegaUpload’s demise fading into meme-history, the internet is rapidly cleaning itself up with news that BTJunkie is closing its online doors.

Torrents are, for the innocents among us, bits of code that allow users to download huge files from peers in small parts, making it possible to distribute huge files for free without being easily caught. As a result, they have been, for many years, the main way of pirating music online yet notoriously hard to shut down.

Now, one of the largest sites that allows users to search and find Torrents, has voluntarily shut its doors, posting the above message on all its pages. “This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down. We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on. It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!”
