Beastie Respond & Blawan - Syncopy [exclusive stream]

Teal Recordings are a Danish record label that’s just three releases old. They appear to be developing a focus for the more off-kilter end of bass music, with the rollicking, oddly vintage sounds of London producer West Norwood Cassette Library’s Blonde On Blonde making up their first release, and the dusty sampling of Hypno the second. Now they’re putting out the first release from Beastie Respond, Danish producer Tobias Pedersen, backed by a heavy whiplash of a Blawan remix.

Title track Syncopy is a strikingly restrained proposition, simmering and clicking with sparse elegance like a dubbed-out soundtrack to a spy film. Blawan’s remix turns it into an entirely different beast. An exemplary, hard, hob-nailed techno stomp in the vein of his new track What You Do With What You Have that’s been doing the radio and DJ rounds recently. Finally, the EP is rounded off with We’ve Seen You Through, a sinister slice of lulling, late-night garage. You can listen to the EP in full below, before it’s released next week.
