Apple might be developing earbuds that charge your iPod

A kind of cyberpunk patent published yesterday seems to indicate that Apple are creating earphones that will do away with charge cables for good.

The Techland blog over at Time Magazine reported yesterday that Apple had registered a patent for an “inductive charging system”. According to those in the know, this means they could be developing earphones which charge your iPod or iOS device.

One way in which this might work is by wrapping the conductive earphones around some kind of charging tower; alternatively, Apple might be using “acoustic charging”, which would use frequency sensors in the earbuds to create electricity.

Either way, it would be revolutionary for the amount of clutter you have to carry around with you, although Apple has been accused by Android of using bogus patents lately, so don’t throw away your old charger just yet.
