Apparat - The Devil's Walk [album stream]

Hear the Berlin producer's album of delicate yet stadium-sized soul.

Next week, Berlin producer Apparat (Sascha Ring) will release his album ‘The Devil’s Walk’ on Mute, the follow up to 2007’s ‘Walls’, and 2009’s ‘Moderat’ alongside Modeselektor. It’s a horizon-spanning work of IDM, grand in scale, and perhaps unexpectedly, the album it most reminds one of is U2’s ‘The Joshua Tree’. The nod to religious belief in the title fits it well, each sound is dripping with tender spirituality, the bruised but delicate tone of it ringing with redemption. It’s a rather beautiful listen, delicately stirring strings, rustling electronics, and stadium vocals aching for a lighters-in-the-air sing-a-long.
