Like a look that shoots daggers, this moodily minimal Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble cover of Emika’s song Pretend, also featuring the Berlin-based singer, bubbles with suppressed emotion. It’s the first taste of the German trio’s new album ‘Mr Machine’, the follow-up to last year’s ‘You Make Me Real’, and sees their number swell to a ten-piece band enabling a whole new raft of real-world percussive possibilites with which to architect their tautly strung landscapes. Hence the slightly rejigged name, see? Worth keeping an ear out for.
