Brighton trio Regal Safari released their debut EP ‘R G L S F R’ at the beginning of the month for free download (grab the MP3s below), six tracks of tender wooziness that sound like they’re sunbathing on a bright, idyllic hilltop somewhere. Similar in approach to London’s Vondelpark, they give us feathery chords, daydreamy rhythms, a record that’s pretty and effervescent, the barely-there melodies just present enough to ensure a listener doesn’t come over all lost in the clouds. They can also offer up blistering, warm-hearted noise with the best of them, with Triumph a positively feverish stomp of a track, and Marian twitching with some stuttering garage flex. If you missed it the first time around, give ‘R G L S F R’ a listen now, before they play Don’t Die Wondering at The Shacklewell Arms in London on Saturday. There’s also a rather beguiling video for first track Light below, which contrasts Regal Safari’s glistening sound with sharp black and white landscape line drawings.
