Masayoshi Fujita is a Berlin-based artist who has previously released as El Fog, and has also worked in collaboration with fellow Berlin ambient man Jans Jelinek. Fujita’s vibraphone album ‘Stories’ just came out on the flau label – a collection crafting a memorable colour and emotion out of its stripped-back instrumentation.
Here’s an exclusive look at a rework of a ‘Stories’ cut, courtesy of labelmates Twigs & Yarn. The Austin duo deconstruct Swan and Morning Dews’ vibraphone chimes and rebuild a jerking melody out of the remnants – with layers of found sound and crackling rhythms swirling around it. With its wispy glow and deft lightness of touch, it calls to mind Icelanders múm circa ‘Finally We Are No One’. Stream it below.
