Premiere: Kid Smpl - I Think It's Gone (DJAO cover)

Following on briskly from the first volume, the second batch of “re-imaginings” of Kid Smpl’s ‘Skylight’ album will drop tomorrow, and here’s a first listen to Dropping Gems associate DJAO’s gently stirring take of I Think It’s Gone. Pitched not as a remix but as a “cover”, DJAO transposes the original’s mournful, undulating synth refrains onto trebly guitar, and along with weighty bass beneath opens the lid on the original to send it into more dubby, open-ended territory. The pair have shared album space before, with both artists represented on Friends Of Friends’ ‘Show Me The Future’ compilation at the beginning of the year.
