Premiere: Ian Drennan - Cannonade

New Jersey musician Ian Drennan is one half of shoegazey indie pop duo Big Troubles but for this, his solo project, he steers a path towards experimental composition. Cannonade is the first track from his forthcoming debut double LP ‘The Wonderful World’ (artwork below) on Underwater Peoples and is indeed quite wonderful. There’s something of Jam City’s minimalist approach to angles and architectural squeals in the way Drennan coaxes emotion from his keyboard and abstract samples. Cannonade tiptoes and flutters before tumbling, headfirst, into cascading chimes. A little like the British summer, funnily enough.
