Premiere: Bones & Money - 'Aberdeen Truth Series Vol. 4'

Aberdeen-based label Tuff Wax has had a pretty good year. Since we first posted about them back in late 2011 the label has reached its tenth release, having given a platform for local producers like Yoin and Grobbie as well as label head Lockah. Lockah himself has gone from strength to strength this year too, having released his wonderfully entitled ‘What Happens When U Stop Feeling Like A Weirdo & Become A Threat’ EP on Mad Decent sub-label Jeffrees. The boys from Aberdeen have been hosting parties in the north of Scotland for some time now, but it’s when they get their heads down and work on their respective productions that they do their best.

The latest Tuff Wax release (and the last in their ‘Aberdeen Truth’ series) is by duo Bones & Money, who have shown a real development in their sound so far. After their sparsely composed but endlessly addictive first release Close/Anxious, which got love from Boiler Room earlier in the year too, ‘Vol. 4’ – Black Diamond/Footage 4 Days shows a graduation from the familiar R&B vocal sample motif to something with a little more bite; where some lovely slices of sub bass, rap hooks and ominous synth lines pull together to give the single a more weighted presence. With this sort of potential being shown so early on, we reckon we’ll be keeping an eye on these lads. Great promo image, too.
