Ooko - Sex Sells EP

You can’t touch new Bristolian producer Ooko’s turf. His track Downtown makes that clear with its matte breakbeat foundation; wobbling, plummeting bass and a looped vocal sample from the deep. It sounds as spiky as its Soundcloud shard looks and has plenty of jittery energy, but the menacing sections are tempered by an eerie refrain and the slow tempo restrains the aggression and puts the focus on its great rhythmic base.

The rest of the EP continues in a similar vein: the titular track works arounds syncopated drum patterns but has a seductive bounce and the My Nu Leng remix ramps up the tempo for a closing rapid-fire techno push. The ‘Sex Sells EP’ is available 12” vinyl on the 28th of May and digitally on 11th of June via Mimm Recordings.
