Onra – L.O.V.E.

Soulful hip hop beats are Onra’s game. The Vietnamese-Frenchman was a well-travelled youngster, having grown up in Germany, Ivory Coast, and France. Onra’s past releases were influenced by his oriental ancestry, most notably in his album, the first volume of ‘Chinoiseries’ – he picked up a load of old Asian records on his first trip to Vietnam in 2006, sampled on the record.

Now six years on, Onra is releasing a new one on Fool’s Gold, and L.O.V.E. is the first track available to stream from it. It immediately rings of 70s funk, with synth-ed keys, other early electronic sounds and the odd vocal flicker – the sampling gives its modernity away, though. Tracklisting is below, as well as the stream for L.O.V.E.. He’s got a couple of contributing artists in tow for this one which nothing out of the norm for him. T3 from Slum Village features on After Hours – it’s worth having a listen to their previous collaboration on The One, too.

The ‘Deep In The Night’ EP is out on June 12th via Fool’s Gold.

1 – After Hours (feat. T3)
2 – L.O.V.E.
3 – Somewhere (Deep In The Night)
4 – V.B.B. (feat. Jay Kin & Amalia)
5 – Hold Tight
