Seemingly out of the blue, London has nutured a new generation of jazz musicians who are making the once fabled genre relevant on these shores once again. A wide network of singers, instrumentalists and producers are combining their skills into some magic, pulling from the classics and injecting funk, hip-hop and soul elements to an already winning formula. South Londoner Oscar Jerome is one of the leaders of this new school and the singer and guitarist today shares his new single, 'Smile on a Screen'.
Jerome turns the upbeat production on its head with smooth yet earthy stream of consciousness lyrics, and featured artist and poet James Massiah brings the track home with a meaningful spoken word near the end. The track is taken from Oscar's Where Are Your Branches EP, which is out January 26th. Currently on tour in New York, he returns to London for his first headline show at Corsica Studios on January 31st.
