Philadephia rapper and producer Lushlife meddles in the experimental end of the rap spectrum, blurring genres and filling his bars with bewildering left-field references. He’s also hooked up with Yonkers man and one third of legendary rap group The LOX Styles P on Still I Hear the World Progress – the first song from his upcoming LP ‘Plateau Vision’.
The original track is a flitting electro ode to the hard grind with real intent and menace but the remix from Balam Acab simmers and slows it to a stew. Styles P sounds hard-as-nails on the best of the days but his voice here snarls and Lushlife’s longer verse sounds like it was delivered in a trance. The re-work is very dark but surprisingly light and the big bass and drum hits are tempered by Acab’s characteristic echoed, padded vocals and keyboard flourishes.
