Julia Kent - Transportation (Delivered By Roll The Dice)

Recently, we premiered cellist Julia Kent’s third album ‘Character’ – an album rife with push-and-pull tension and complexity, viewed by Julia herself as “very much an inward-looking record”. Now Stockholm duo and fellow Leaf Label artists Roll The Dice – who have previously been interviewed for Dummy – have shared their their take on Transportation.

Interestingly, it’s a rework described as being “delivered” rather than simply remixed – and the image of care and consideration that choice of word conjures feels particularly appropriate here. Rather than deconstruct or tear at the centre of the track, stuttering electronics and scuffling bass build upon the source’s intensity, pitching Kent’s introverted cello against more extrovert forces. Later, syncopated piano stabs drop in wildly to further flesh out the emotional potency running through Transportation’s core. Stream it below – and you can name your price for it on Bandcamp.

The Leaf Label will release Julia Kent’s ‘Character’ album on 4th March 2013
