Jelani Blackman's 'Bubblin' new release

"...There was a letter through the door with a noise complaint ‘cos I was on such a wave."

Rapper Jelani Blackman, who recently joined the Gorillaz on stage at the O2, has shared his new single ‘Bubblin’ with a brand new music and lyric video. Recorded in one take, ‘Bubblin’ is an outburst of pent-up energy, with Jelani’s lyricism exploring his societal position and hyping up his capabilities as a rapper, delivering lines like ‘If I jump on it’s a mazza” – a fair claim considering his version of ‘Hello‘ is thought of as one of Colors’ best sessions.

With 2020 as his breakthrough year, 2021 has also been a busy one for Jalani, who has been included in Radio 1’s Next Wave, DIY’s Class of 2021 and 1Xtra TOTW. Developing his sound when grime was at peak popularity, he is also influenced by R&B and soul. ‘Bubblin’ follows tunes like ‘Don’t Matter’ and ‘Pattern’: tracks that demonstrate his ability to take on the dark and the light and manoeuvre between the soft and the hard stories.

On the new track, Jelani explains; “I was actually Bubblin when I recorded this tune. I was in lockdown and had to record in my studio at home. The next day there was a letter through the door with a noise complaint ‘cos I was on such a wave. That‘s the whole mood of the song for me.”

Catch Jelani at All Points East, Love Saves The Day, and Sound City this summer.
