Hear three new tracks produced by Arthur Russell

Pitchfork have pointed us to the news of three unearthed Arthur Russell productions up for release next month. The tracks were originally made for a Steven Hall (AKA Nirosta Steel and also leader of the tribute group Arthur’s Landing) project in 1985 and feature production, mixing and vocal and cello contributions from Russell, who also worked with Hall on some of his own tracks like Make 1, 2 and A Little Lost. Well described by engineer Bob Blank as music with a “folkie, country feel to it but always edged with the city feelings” Foxy Pup, So Unusual and Every Single Night move easily through early hip-hop drum programming, jangly guitar pop and thick experimental fuzz and highlight the relationship between Hall’s direct, playful songwriting and Russell’s typically meditative and expansive style.

All three tracks will be released in a limited run of 300 12” vinyls through Hollie Records on 20th April and are available to stream in full here.
