Haleek Maul - Oxyconteen

Barbadian rapper Haleek Maul may have only just turned 16, but his debut EP ‘Oxyconteen’ on Merok Records is stunning. With its dark, occasionally sinister, operatic instrumentals and production from The-Drum, Supreme Cuts, King Britt and Strat Carter, it’s more than likely that we’ll all be hearing more of Maul’s voice as the year goes on.

Maul, who began rapping after listening to Lil Wayne, Eminem and Kanye West, started to come into his own when he began to experiment with sounds, a development that was heavily influenced by the work of Gorillaz, Fever Ray and Portishead.
