Four Tet & RocketNumberNine - Roseland

It’s already proved a fruitful 2013 for Kieran Hebden fans: so far he’s shared old/new material with the ‘0181’ collection, put out a single crafted around African tribal chanting with a very, very long name, and announced a reissue of his breakthrough third album, ‘Rounds’. And now here’s a Floating Points-produced collaboration with duo RocketNumberNine, who have toured and worked with Four Tet before, with their track Matthew and Toby receiving the remix treatment from Hebden.

Roseland floats along elegantly for a barely felt eight minutes – with RocketNumberNine’s cascading, brushed rhythms linking back to the more subdued moments on Hebden’s series of albums working with jazz drummer Steve Reid. And while much of Hebden’s post-‘There Is Love In You’ has felt resolutely club-oriented, it’s good to know he can still switch back into the kinds of escapist, jazz-fused ambience that made us all love him in the first place.

TEXT will release ‘Roseland/Metropolis’ in the next few weeks
