French duo Evergreen today shares ‘Guess What’, the first single and video to be released from their forthcoming project.

The pair’s latest track is a bittersweet blend of groove-laden Synth-pop and ’90s Parisian electronica, exploring drunken messages to an ex-partner and the breakup process in the age of social media.

“It’s inspired by the many ways in which technology and social media platforms prevent the natural process of closure from a former relationship,” says the band. “A song written as a series of slightly stalky text messages to an ex-lover, reminding them of one’s presence. It’s meant to be a little nostalgic and a little creepy.”

Themes of online presence and relationships are explored in more depth on Evergreen’s newly announced EP, titled ‘Sign In’, which channels early-internet nostalgia to rail against the modern-day digital world.

“These are some of the most vulnerable songs we’ve written. They all stem from personal experience somehow: breakups, frustration, self-doubt. And above all, loneliness” the pair say. “It’s about addictions, including social networks, platforms, screens. We’ve been left with screens too long, sometimes it feels like we’re closer to them than we are to the people we care about.”

We’ve been working on the single and EP with 0800 MOSHI-MOSHI – which is set to drop on October 15 – via our DMY Artists.
