Blondes – Lover live from XOYO [stream]

Not sure if anyone’s totally figured out why Blondes’ live show is one of the best going. It’s something to do, maybe, with the fact that the tracks are neither improv’d to Jacksie, or straight renditions, but something made fresh each time; and how that combines with their strange tempo, operating at that slower than fast, faster than slow pace that works at exactly the same pace and sprawl as the way you think in a club – “Wouldn’t it be nice to … / This song’s nice / Crikey, is that Tom? / It’s Friday! / Which means it’s Saturday tomorrow”, and so on. Anyway, as part of our on-going attempt to get up to restraining-order levels of Blondes sycophancy, we recorded their live set last month, and now you can listen to their new single, Lover, as it was played that night.
