Metronomy’s Anna Prior is the latest face to turn in their contribution to Acali’s ‘You Can’t Plan No Shit’ remix series.
Following the release of Acali‘s debut single back in June, New York disco rockers Chk Chk Chk and Pittsburgh Track Authority combined their skills under the moniker Cheek Inc. to inject a two step twist into the trio’s summer anthem.
Now adding another rework into the mix, the new release layers a variety of drum beat styles, resulting in a rhythm unique to Prior’s productions. Harnessing the disco influence coursing the veins of the original track, the Metronomy member lends the single a 70’s Italian flavour geared for the dance floor.
Anna had this to say about her remix: “I knew immediately where I wanted to go with this remix when Acali asked me to put a spin on their already magical debut track. I wanted to give the song an Italo Disco Giorgio Moroder feel, so just went straight into Ableton, set the BPM to 120 and created a synth arp using the Korg Minilogue.”
Named after a 1973 social experiment which tested the adversity of a group of strangers from different races, cultures and religions as they sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on a raft, the Acali expedition came to be recognised as a beautiful demonstration of unity, kindness and the power of equality. Inspired and connected by many of the same ideas that defined the expedition, Edd Gibson (Friendly Fires), Lea Lea (!!!) and Orlando Leopard (Arthur Beatrice) formed an eponymous trio to help challenge society’s expectations.
