Dummy Picks 004 // April 2013

It’s April, meaning spring has officially arrived, but the temperature says otherwise here in London town. Going through an immensely long winter that seems never-ending, quite frankly, we are all getting a bit tired of it now. In anticipation of The Simpsons-resembling blue sky and T-shirt weather that will hopefully come soon, Dummy staffers have chosen a selection of 14 invigorating productions (some fresh off the press, some exclusive, some forthcoming), compiling them into this month’s Dummy Picks which is packed to the brim with blissful moments.

Peter Gordon and Factory Floor’s post-punk-injected collaborative effort, out on Optimo Music, sets the tone nicely while tingling house pieces offered up by Mr Beatnick on Don’t Be Afraid and Florian Kupfer on L.I.E.S follows up the joyriding feeling. Contemporary UK sound comes from London producer Brolin, duo Mount Kimbie and Hyperdub bossman Kode9, who will be mixing the upcoming commercial compilation for Rinse FM. Representing the sound of techno, bass, and juke are Cosmin TRG, Sycorax, Pursuit Grooves and Slava, whose fierce and frantic debut album will drop on Ford & Lopatin’s Software Recordings later this month. Closing the deal is Hymn For SoYo – an irresistably cheery and elevating cut, taken from Sheffield three-piece The Black Dog’s latest studio album.
