xxxy - XLR8R mix

xxxy’s just moved to London from Manchester, and his music has been popping up both in staff mixes and the Dummy office quite a bit in 2011. The UK bass producer, also known as Rupert Taylor to his mates, blends a variety of older house and garage styles in ways that sound cutting edge in 2011. This mix does the same: from the very recent Karenn remix of West Norwood Cassette Library to 1989’s In A Vision by Chicago’s Virgo to personal fave house masterpiece from Photek in 2000, the guy has an excellent grasp on matching up tracks in engaging, thoughtful ways. Like Robert Owens sings on the Photek track: “If that don’t make you happy / I don’t know / I don’t know!”
