Volte-Face - Moonbased mix

Volte-Face, the newly adapted alias of Casper C (mixer of the fourteenth installment of Dummy Mix), has delivered a 90-minute recording, digging deep into the sounds of illuminating house while exploring the territory between noise-bathed, droning techno and club-rooted, booming machine funk.

As the founder of the heady BleeD club night, Casper has an extended profile in event promotion; he is also one of the brains behind east London festival Field Day, which is set to take place on Saturday 25th May at Victoria Park.

The mix, available for stream below, puts together a slew of remarkable pieces of production coming from Actress via Honest Jon’s, Laurel Halo through Hyperdub, Shampoo Boy of Blackest Ever Black, and Andy Stott and Demdike Stare from Manchester’s Modern Love staple. L.I.E.S, Opal Tapes, Downwards, Warp, Delsin, Clone Basement Series and Spectrum Spools offerings both old and new also feature. Other notable tracks included are: the unreleased The Story Of Keys And Locks by Bee Mask, reinterpreted by Anthony ‘Surgeon’ Child; a cut from IVVVO forthcoming on Public Information as well as productions by Lee Gamble and Shed (under his Head High guise), who will both be sharing a stage with Casper and taking to the decks at Field Day this weekend.

According to Casper, this mix is an aperitif for the BleeD stage at Field Day. “I wanted to put together what could loosely be described as a ‘techno’ mix, collecting some of my favourite maverick producers, such as STL, Shed, Container, Morphosis and Robert Hood in one place. As ever, I consciously avoided sticking to one groove or feeling for too long at a time. I wanted to include Terrence Dixon’s remix of Moonraker early on, as it’s such a strange, disorienting track. Rivet signals a move into more heads down territory around the halfway point, and towards the end, there’s a chance to hear Surgeon’s as-yet unreleased Bee Mask remix, and a forthcoming track from IVVVO, who is set for big things in the not too distant future.”

He also expresses, “I’ll be playing before Shed, so I’ll have to try to avoid playing loads of his records, which would be terribly bad manners. I’m planning to play a pretty deep techno selection to get things moving into the evening, with Objekt and Karenn closing the night off in style.”

On BleeD-related affairs, he adds, “I’d like to take the chance to direct you towards our forthcoming BleeD shows. Over the next few months, we’re welcoming talents as disparate as Bee Mask, Frak, Vessel, Helena Hauff, Tropic Of Cancer, Vatican Shadow and Helm. Watch this space.”
