Steve Hauschildt's Hurricane Sandy mix

Prolific artist and member of pioneering electronic group Emeralds Steve Hauschildt was one of thousands who witnessed the formidable and tragic impact of Hurricane Sandy on the US East Coast this week. From his home in Cleveland, Steve sent us this mix, which he made as weather conditions were beginning to worsen at the start of the week, and told us that “20 minutes after it uploaded I lost power.”

It’s corny but true to say that in some of the most helpless moments in life, when we feel the smallest or the most powerless, music – as a way of feeling inspired, and a way of being heard – is pretty comforting. Take a little bit of time out of your day, then, to bask in the reassuring rush of warmth in the tracks Steve chose as the storm closed in, and feel a little bit better about everything.

You can watch Steve Hauschildt’s most recent video here, and read what he has to say about video game soundtracks in our recent Dummy guide to video game music.
