Southern Rap Headphone Highlights on RBMA Radio
Andrew ‘Noz’ Nosnitsky of the great blog Cocaine Blunts knows an awful lot about hip-hop and has a penchant for the once much-maligned and now widely lauded sounds from the Southern states of the US.
Noz stepped up for a one hour mix for the Red Bull Music Academy radio station and gave a taste of a collection that goes further than the Southern rap often considered seminal – like the holy trinity of UGK, Three 6 Mafia and DJ Screw – for a one hour mix of trunk rattlers and rump shakers from the 80s and early 90s. Tracks from all over the region feature and highlights include 1988 Dallas rap classic Yellow Hammer, the fantastic stomper Get Buck by Memphis native and Juicy J doppelgänger Pretty Tony and a closer from don Scarface.
