‘Grime MC’: Jme’s latest project is a lesson in authenticity in the social media age
Lukid, BNJMN, Samoyed and Mr Beatnick are the collective behind Pride Of Gombe. Following their launch party back in August, the super group will return this weekend on Saturday 1st December for the second instalment of their event, and they’ve also invited Rekordah, the head of Astro:Dynamics, to spin some records. Although officially launched only in 2010, Astro:Dynamics has rapidly made itself a consistently thrilling label, hosting releases from some of Dummy’s favourite producers such as Samoyed, Tapes, cohorts of Bristol’s Young Echo Collective like Vessel, Jabu and El Kid, and Dummy mix alumni 1991 and BNJMN under his Singing Statues alias.
GLUM label boss and Werk Discs longtime affiliate Lukid will be on decks duties, providing some under-the-ocean drone-oriented vibrations. Man of many guises BNJMN will also make an appearance; expect dense, melodic and walloping sounds from the Rush Hour producer. Dundee artist Samoyed, master of floaty tenderness, is held responsible to bring some soulful ambience. Lastly, NTS Radio and Don’t Be Afraid’s Mr Beatnick will be joining the crew, showcasing a more house and hip hop-leaning set.
Ahead of their Christmas Special event on Saturday, Pride Of Gombe have delivered a wide-ranging recording jam-packed with slices of down-tempo, shimmery cuts, exploring some deep, dark sounds to get you going.
