Premiere: Olugbenga's Studio Africa mix for Dummy

As part of Studio Africa, a project that aims to champion and unite creative talents both hailing from and influenced by the music of Africa, producer and Metronomy bassist Olugbenga Adelekan aka OLUGBENGA (read our Quick Catch-Up with him from earlier this year) took a visit to Lagos to shoot the video to his song Silver Pixie, Iyawo Mi. The event was documented by Noisey, and upon his return Gbenga put a mix together to showcase some of his influences from across Africa.

We'll leave it up to Olugbenga himself to explain more about this mix: "I got a chance in August to head back to Nigeria and shoot a video in Lagos as part of Diesel and Edun's Studio Africa project. I grew up in Lagos but hadn't been back since I was a teenager, so it was interesting being there as an adult, especially because I've been following the Nigerian music scene quite closely over the last four years or so. One night we went out to The New Afrika Shrine, the club run by Femi Kuti as a tribute to his father Fela. That was certainly very different to an Afrobeats night in London…

"As you might expect, this mix leans a little heavily on West Africa (myself, Afrikan Boy, Seye, Burna Boy) but actually without really planning to, I think I managed to hit all the compass points. As they say at The Shrine, 'Afrika Must Unite!'"

Check out the tracklist below. Earlier this year we had a short catch up with Olugbenga.
