Dummy Picks 001 // January 2013 // What's your New Year's resolution?

They say January is music’s no man’s land, but the first month of 2013 seems to have proven otherwise. Rolling into the fourth week of the month, plenty of good news and releases have already flooded in. With David Bowie and our 90s heroes – Destiny’s Child, Justin Timberlake, and D’Angelo – announcing their return and details of forthcoming albums, we couldn’t help but chuck in a couple of their new smooth offerings into this staff mix.

There’s a wide selection of unreleased tracks here too, venturing from Deptford Goth and FaltyDL’s light pop touches to Future’s heavy sci-fi presence, and from Brooke Candy’s candy-sweet bottle-poppin’ ode to Short Stories’ (Koreless and Sampha’s new collaborative effort) and Infinite Bisous’s sweet, technicolour jams. Special mention goes to Sandwell District’s David Sumner, AKA Karl ‘Regis’ O’Connor’s partner-in-crime, Function, whose techno thriller Counterpoint is featured in this mix, as he has recently unveiled information about his debut LP on Ostgut Ton, to be out later this spring.

Stream our picks below in the shape of one lovely waveform, and watch this space for next month’s choices.
