Dummy Mix 95 // Darius Syrossian

Darius Syrossian is no slouch. He hails from Leeds and produces music and DJs for Steve Lawler’s VIVa Music crew, Berlin heavyweights Get Physical, Area Remote and others. He also presents an internationally broadcasted FM radio show with an impressive roster of special guests, and co-manages the Breakout Audio record label. His motto is “TRUE. HOUSE. MUSIC.” which is apparent in his musical ethos. In a scene that always runs the risk of crossing the line into commercial fluff, he remains committed to the soulful underground over the glitz and glamour of his more mainstream contemporaries. I’ve attended some of his showcases in both the UK and Miami’s Winter Music Conference and can attest to Darius’ loyalty in staying true to his musical roots and commitment to throwing great parties. The mix he’s given us is full of late-night filthy vibes mixed seamlessly into an hour of dance-floor bliss.

How’s it going?

Very good! Very busy, but good

Can you tell us a bit about the mix?

Yeah this was a secret loft party I played at in Manhattan New York a few yards from Empire state building. I was on tour with Steve Lawler & Leon playing ten dates across America for the Identity festival. Steve has a massive fan base in NYC, he knows some guys who own a really cool place in Manhattan and for his fans he said he will play a free after party…word of mouth only…we arrived after our festival gig and it was literally ROAD BLOCK, hundreds of people queuing trying to get in. It was an amazing party, NYC makes you go that little bit more low slung, bit more quirky, more sleazy with your music.

What are your three favourite clubs in the world to play at?

1, Distrikt 36 in New York,
2, Arma 17 Moscow,
3, Sankeys my residency in Manchester is just amazing,

What are a few of your top choices of tunes to close out a set?

1, Ben Westbeech – Falling (Deetron Paradise vocal remix)
2, Larry Heard – The Sun Can’t Compare
3, Azari & III – Manic (Maceo Plex remix)

What are you up to in the coming months?

I’ve just come back off a ten day U.S tour, started my Coloursound residency in Leeds playing with Stacey Pullen last weekend, have some amazing gigs at my residency for Sankeys Manchester coming up. I have three gigs in Canada next month, and also very busy in the studio, tracks and remixes, next two things coming out are on Thirtyonetwenty & VIVa MUSiC!

Thirtyonetwenty releases Darius Syrossian’s remix of Alex Piccini & Olderic’s Hangover on the 30th October 2011
