Taking on the role of a radio DJ for just under an hour, Finlince!‘s increasingly-playful Dummy mix really is a case of expecting the unexpected. “I incorporated many different genres merely on the basis of how bipolar my music taste gets,” says the 17-year-old producer and vocalist: “I’m all over the place, so I just pumped up everything I love in music”. Spanning UK grime and bassline bangers at first, it may catch fans off-guard, but that’s before the Redcar-based teen throws in plenty of his own unreleased “exclusives” and edits of tracks by his mates from the US hyperpop and digicore scene (including dltzk and kmoe).
Halfway through, the distortion turns all the way up to 11 as Fin showcases his tougher “earbleeds-only” ethos with industrial experiments before pivoting back to straight-up house groovers, ending with a banging Jersey Club-style Chief Keef remix and poignant spoken word outro. “For the feel of this mix, I wanted the listener to imagine just tuning their radio to an accidental FM signal, to where you’re introduced to this wide range of amazing sounds,” he says of the mix, which is equally suited to car journeys, banging out at home in your bedroom or for “going on a walk and witnessing the beauty of life itself whilst it rages on in your earphones”.
