Dummy Mix 39 // Andrew Weatherall

ANDREW WEATHERALL is brilliant. He’s been brilliant for years. He was a member of the Boy’s Own brigade, produced Primal Scream’s ‘Screamadelica’, was a member of Sabres of Paradise, and Two Lone Swordsmen, and has produced everyone from Beth Orton to Fuck Buttons.

For more on him, including his own-name album from last year, you should read our interview with him from earlier this year. A couple of days ago, he made us a brand new mix. It’s, um, brilliant. (Download Dummy Mix 39 // Andrew Weatherall on the right.) You can catch Mr Weatherall and Sean Johnston at The Drop tomorrow night playing Psyche-Disco that “never knowingly exceeding 122bpm”. Nice.

What kind of mix have you made for Dummy?

Red with purple flashes.

Please tell us about a couple of the tracks you’ve included and why?

At least half of the tracks were found when visiting a long neglected area of the Rotter’s Golf Club record library and felt it my duty to make amends for said neglect by sharing them with people via the medium of digital distribution.

So what’s your new night like?

It’s an oasis of slow in a world of ever increasing velocity.

What other music projects do you have up your sleeves at the moment?

I’ve just completed a Grinderman remix and mixed an album for a band called Warpaint. A new Andrew Weatherall album has been completed and will be released pending some slightly annoying legal business.

Who’s getting you excited music-wise at the moment?

Chris Rotter’s Bad Meat Club, the solo work of Mr Timothy J. Fairplay, Thee Oh Sees, the new Robert Hood album, Whistler’s Jug Band, Beach Fossil and ‘There Is A Garden’ by Archie Roach.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

My patented anti-Twitter device finally being made available.

What’s your favourite colour?

Red with purple flashes.

Andrew Weatherall plays The Drop tomorrow night (Thursday 15 July) at A Love From Outer Space – Part III. The Drop, 175 Stoke Newington High Street, 9.30pm – 3am. The first 100 guests will receive an exclusive mix CD.
