Dummy Mix 109 // Acyde

If you haven’t already got to know, Acyde is one half of London duo The Shining with Hyperdub producer Morgan Zarate. Young Turks released their funked up debut single Hey You last month. It was at the label’s Boiler Room takeover a year ago to the day that I first heard The Shining play. It was an appropriately sultry set, including tons of fresh ‘untitled’ joints that I’m still waiting for them to release (check it here). Then, just before this New Year’s, Acyde did a show on NTS, sharing his rare soul and disco collection with passion. So it only seemed right that he take the reins of our aural contribution to this most sentimental of days, kicking some much needed spark and rhythm into the proceedings. Download it on the right, or stream it below. Happy Valentine’s Day.

Hey Acyde, how are you?

Cold working my way towards warm.

Please tell me a bit about the special mix you’ve made for Dummy?

It’s a dirty vinyl only Disco & Soul mix that hopefully represents Lust, Loss & a crazy little thing called LOVE.

What’s your favourite track on there and why?

It changes every time I listen back to it. Right now it’s My Boss by Linda Di Franco. The production has that 80s synth gloss with a hint of neon sleaze and the lyrics are a little bit odd. My kinda hype.

I really like Hey You. What’s next for The Shining?

We’re working on a bunch of things – the next single, more songs, a handful of remixes and a new twist on how we present our DJ sets.

What are you most looking forward to in 2012?

Love’s heat in the summer & clubs with good sound-systems playing more Disco & Rock.

And finally, any musical recommendations for all the lovers out there?

If you can make it through this 45min mix together, it’s probably meant to be. Enjoy.

Young Turks released The Shining Hey You on 23rd January 2012
