Dummy Mix 107 // Gang Colours

Southampton producer Will Ozanne makes skittering, hopeful beats and modern, mournful soul as Gang Colours. Ahead of his rather lovely debut album ‘The Keychain Collection’ on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label later this month, he’s gifted us a peek inside his brain via this mix of musical influences past and present. While the touch-points span decades and genres, they share a sweetly soulful thread. Which makes this mix ideal for wandering along frosty streets in late winter sunshine. Download it on the right and check the tracklist below. But first, over to the man himself:

Hey Gang Colours, how’s life?

I currently have a ringed donut in my hand/mouth with icing and many colourful sprinkles on top so I guess life is good right now!

Could you tell us about the mix you’ve made?

Well, I’ve decided go on a little mixtape vibe on this one. So you won’t find any actual ‘mixing’ happening here, but I promise you the ride is smooth and tasteful…
It basically consists of an eclectic bunch of tunes from artists that have inspired me in the past and also a couple of newer bits that I’ve been rinsing over the last few months.

So ‘The Keychain Collection’ is almost upon us! How does that feel?

Having an album out is something I’ve dreamt for a long time and it still seems surreal that it’s all happening in the way that it is. I feel very lucky, and can’t wait for it to be available to the public.

Which track are you proudest of and why?

I guess its got to be a track called Fancy Restaurant which is sort of my attempt at a pop song with a semi romantic edge. It is the first single off the album and the reaction since ‘unveiling’ the track a few weeks ago to the internet has been really positive which completely took me by surprise. It was nice knowing that people were genuinely touched by it. Plus there is a video for it and some awfully tasty remixes too!

What do you have coming up in the next few months?

There are a few remixes and collaborations which I’m excited to be working on and there’s some new material of mine in the making too, although I’m not sure when or how that will rise to the surface yet though, got to get the album out first! I’m also developing the live show slowly but surely – all will be revealed soon!

And lastly, any predictions for 2012?

Kenan and Kel make a come back.

Brownswood Recordings will release Gang Colours ‘The Keychain Collection’ on 27th February 2012
