The Barbican's Transcender season will feature Emeralds and a Bulgarian folk choir

London’s Barbican – the largest multi-arts venue in Europe, don’t you know – will be hosting a series of ecstatic events as part of its Transcender season. “The focus is on music designed to transport the listener, to conjure trances or summon states of ecstasy,” says the press release, which makes it one of the best press release we’ve read. Ohio psych-electronic trio Emeralds will play, as will Bulgarian female choir Le Mystere de voix Bulgares (watch a video here), “hypnotic African grooves” band JuJu and “spiritual minstrel” Sain Zahoor from Pakistan.

The Transcender season at the Barbican will run from 23rd-28th September 2011
